Welcome to my online portfolio. My name is Lindsey Brookbank, and I graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech in May 2012 with majors in English professional writing and communication electronic/print journalism.
While I was at Tech, I served as features staff writer, features editor and managing editor for the student newspaper the Collegiate Times. Immediately after graduation, I served as a reporter at the Leesburg Today and Ashburn Today newspapers, primarily covering the Ashburn, Va. area until November 2012. At that point in time, I took on the role as communications coordinator at The Vision Council, where I currently focus the majority of my time working on the Eyecessorize fashion eyewear campaign.
I am also the second place winner for the 2011 Associated Collegiate Press Reporter of the Year award — beating a reporter from Harvard University. The three stories I submitted for the award are available on the ACP submissions page. That same year, I won second place in the Virginia Press Association's College Feature Story Writing category for a story titled "Missing peace: Morgan Harrington's parents need answers." In addition, I am the 2012 recipient of the John Eure Award in Journalism. I was granted this award through the communication department at Tech.
